LIVE INSECTS

Livefoods Unlimited ships live insects to every state in Australia. The cost of shipping is naturally dependent on a range of factors including; destination, size and quantity of insects and of course the method of shipping. The minimum quantity of any given size of each insect that can be ordered is 250, unless you are ordering Handy Packs. Consequently, the quantities ordered through this website are in batches of 250. The majority of live insect orders are sent by an express post service through Australia Post with the following options:

Smaller orders of live insects are dispatched in mailing tubes (see Insect Shipping & Packaging), e.g. up to 250 large crickets, 500 medium crickets, 500 medium cockroaches, 1000 small crickets, 1000 extra small crickets or 1000 small cockroaches, with a set rate of $9.50 Australia-wide plus a standard packaging charge of $6.60, plus the cost of the insects ordered.

For larger orders of insects delivered within the South-east Queensland (Q1 postal zone), a rate of $11.90 + $6.60 packaging + insects applies to all shipments up to 20kg, which covers 99% of orders.

Note: It is also possible to arrange to collect your insect orders directly from Livefoods Unlimited if you are local, but please remember we are not a shop so it is essential that you make prior arrangements to collect orders.

Outside the Q1 postal zone, larger insect orders are sent in express post satchels (see Insect Shipping & Packaging) with an Australia-wide cost of $15.01 + $6.60 packaging + insects. Each satchel can hold up to two bulk bags of live insects. A bulk bag will hold up to a maximum of 500 large cockroaches, 500 large crickets or 500 large giant mealworms, 1000 medium crickets, 1000 medium cockroaches or 1000 mixed cockroaches, 2000 small crickets, 2000 extra small crickets, 2000 small cockroaches or 2000 medium giant mealworms or 4000 pinhead crickets or 4000 small giant mealworms. If more than two bulk bags of insects are ordered it usually works out cheaper to send them in two (2) or more separate satchels than to send them in one (1) large box, depending on their destination. It may be possible to combine more than two bulk bags into one express post satchel if small quantites are ordered. For details of mailing these combinations of smaller quantities of different insects contact Livefoods Unlimited for more information via our contact page.

A couple of things to remember when planning to buy live insects; pinhead crickets and giant mealworms cannot be shipped in mailing tubes regardless of quantity so they are always packed in either Handy Packs or calico bags. Secondly, because of the volume of handy packs, these must be shipped in boxes and/or satchels so sometimes it works out cheaper to order the minimum bulk quantity of crickets or cockroaches (e.g. 250) and have them shipped in mailing tubes than it does to order the bulkier handy packs. Other options are possible, so if you have a special request please contact Livefoods Unlimited via our contact page with the details and we will attempt to come up with the most economical system for your request.
